Frequently Asked Questions

Why are you called "No Labels Therapy"?

I named my practice No Labels Therapy because that is the philosophy behind the therapy I do - that emotional pain and problems are just as natural and normal as physical pain and problems and when we let go of the labels we have about ourselves, our problems, and therapy in general, we can begin healing the pain and resolving the problems.  Labels create limits is the first belief guiding No Labels Therapy. (Learn More →)

How does therapy work?

Therapy at No Labels Therapy is a collaborative process where the client and therapist are partners in helping the client heal and achieve her/his goals in therapy.  We begin the process by building rapport, comfort, and trust between the client and therapist, identify the things the client wants to work on, and then set goals the client would like to achieve in therapy.  The process of achieving those goals and the techniques and skills used inside and outside the therapy session are individualized to fit the client's needs and particular goals.  I use an eclectic approach to therapy rooted in evidence based practices, primarily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Self-Compassion, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) (Learn More →)

Is everything confidential?

Services are confidential with the exceptions of risk to self or others or court orders for records.   All therapists  in Illinois are mandated reporters and are required by law to report any suspected or disclosed abuse or neglect of a minor to the Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS) that meet certain criteria.  There are similar reporting requirements for the abuse or neglect of elderly or disabled persons who are not able to report such abuse on their own.  Additionally, if a client is at risk to her/himself or others, I may have to notify the proper people/authorities or the person who is at risk of harm in the interest of safety.  Finally, if a court order requesting a client's records is issued, there is a possibility that the records or a portion of them would have to be submitted to the court.  Outside of the circumstances outlined above, all services are confidential and information regarding the client cannot be released without the client's consent.
