No Labels Therapy Beliefs

1. Labels are limiting.

Labeling someone can prevent us seeing any other part of them that doesn't line up with that label.  Ex. - If I label myself as being "a failure" I have a hard time seeing all the times I succeed.

2. People are complex, amazing, and unique, and cannot be defined by labels.

No one is one thing all the time and in all contexts.  Ex. someone may have a hard time paying attention in class and yet be totally focused when playing a musical instrument they love.

3. Problems and pain are a natural part of life.

Pain and problems are part of the human experience.  With everything that has meaning in our lives comes the pain of losing it.  With every problem comes the joy of overcoming it.

4. All people are capable of change.

It is the nature of all living things to change.  We all have the ability to change and improve.

5. Miracles happen.

People's capacity to change, grow, and innovate is amazing.  Transformations occur all the time.

6. Life has meaning.

Everyone's life is amazing in its own way.  We are all here for a reason, and have gifts to share with each other.

7. Pain is often the starting point for change.

Pain is how our body communicates with us that there is a problem that needs to be addressed.  This happens to our physical body as well as to our mind and spirit.  Pain can motivate us to change and grow.  After all, what inspired humans to invent the wheel? The pain of carrying heavy things across vast spaces.
